Activities: Aviculture, gardening, the beach, traveling into
the South and Central American rain forests (way into the areas to learn
and live with the natural environment and it’s native peoples), supporting
a Yagua Indian school in Amazonia Peru, reading
and continuing my education of the areas of my life of which I am
passionate. (I am not nor have I ever been a camper, My love of these
extreme environmental areas took me completely by surprise!)
Interests: Kind of obvious, isn’t it?! I love giving free
programs and taking some of my mushy and cuddly big parrots. I get the
attention of the group that way and then I can zap them with information
about almost any parrot or environmental issue.
Favorite Music: Josh Groban, Yanni, private and instrumental music. David Cook and
other American Idol singers.
Favorite TV Shows: Grey’s Anatomy, House, Dancing with the Stars,
American Ido, Dr. Phil, Oprah, The Doctores, Ellen. (Good grief.
Looks like I am a TV addict…but I’m not, really!) I forgot
Bachelor/Bachelorette.
Favorite Movies: An Inconvenient Truth, 11th Hour, Big
Chill. I like movies where there is a message or they enhance life as I see
it. I don’t go to movies…more prone to watch a reality program on TV.
Favorite Books: The Secret, New Earth, Younger Next Year, Attitudes
of Gratitude, lots of books on how to use tools and reduce clutter, Prix
Macaw, and lots and lots of environmental books about our Earth and Exotic
live science. (Yes, includes parrots..of course)
Favorite
Quotations: “Many have forgotten this truth, but
you must not forget it. You remain responsible, forever, for what you have
tamed.” Antoine de Saint Exapery.
“I hope my
achievements in life shall be these – that I will have fought for what was
right and fair, that I will have risked for that which mattered, that I
will have given help to those who were in need…that I will have left the
earth a better place for what I’ve done, and who I’ve been”
My Philosophy: No where I have mentioned my three adult children.
They are awesome people; Todd, Tracey, and Tara. My son Todd has spent most
of his life in Chicago. Tracey is a teacher and is the mother of my two
precious grandchildren; Blake & Annissa. Tara
is the youngest, single, and very involved with animals (not parrots) and
animal groups. Tracey is the only married child of mine, and added a very
nice son-in-law to the family. My biological family is very small now that
my parents, grandparents, etc. have left this good earth. I have a strong
belief however; that A FAMILY IS A CIRCLE OF FRIENDS WHO LOVE YOU. My many
years of teaching certainly gave me some wonderful friends as over 30 o the
years was in the same school; Campbell Elementary, Mona Shores-Norton
Shores Michigan. With being in one building so long I had children in class
from children I’d had in class! My God daughter was in my class. School was
not a job…it was my life and love. Many wonderful things have happened to
me as a result of all those years. Two of the dearest to my hear were the
“Tolerance Award” and placement of my name on the wall, and “Who’s Who
Among America’s Teachers”. This was particularly dear as a form student
nominated me for this when she was a senior in high school. I had no idea
that she had done it and I have her as a student in first grade! Nicole is
now a lawyer I’m told.
